Feeling Cold? Here are 4 Ways to Warm Up with Berries

Posted On: December 12, 2018

Winter season is approaching and snow storms will begin to dress our surroundings with white drizzles. And when temperatures start to drop, your desire for sweets, homemade baked goods and hot soups begin to rise. The Berry That Cares can solve your whim for comfort and will wrap your taste buds in the mouthwatering flavor of our all-natural blueberries. There are many options to choose from, but we’ve chosen a few of our favorites dishes that incorporate that explosive blueberry flavor to heat up your winter-time cooking.

The specialty: Blueberry Pie
Let’s keep the tradition alive and keep baking those blueberry pies that we love! It’s time to take out mom’s recipe book from the kitchen drawer and look for the classic blueberry pie recipe and start baking! There is nothing better than a fresh out of the oven pie oozing with blueberries on a cold afternoon. You can use either fresh or frozen berries from The Berry That Cares, whichever you have on hand. However, if you use frozen berries be sure not to thaw them beforehand, as this will lead to a soggy pie crust.

Warm Blueberry Drizzle for Breakfast
Cold weather calls for a hot breakfast! Put a twist on the traditional breakfast dressing of maple syrup and combine amazing blueberry sauce with buttery pancakes and chewy waffles. The ingredient list is simple: fresh blueberries, sugar and lemon juice. Follow the recipe here and you’ll be done in less than 25 minutes. Trust us, the balance between a fluffy pancake or waffle with the sweet taste of our warm blueberry compote will exceed your expectations!

Traditional Scandinavian Blueberry Soup
People of the Nordic countries are experts on cold weather living, so we looked to them for recipe inspiration. Try something new (and blue) with this Scandinavian blueberry soup. Simple ingredients and easy to make, it’ll satisfy your palate with the most splashy blueberry flavor! To prepare this sweet soup, bring two cups of water, half a cup of sugar, and two cups of The Berry That Cares’ blueberries to a boil. In a small bowl, mix two tablespoons of potato flour (or cornstarch) and a bit of water (depending on how thick or thin you like your soup) and slowly add it in to the blueberry mixture. Turn off the heat and serve with toast or a dollop of thick yogurt.

Warm Blueberry Muffins
If you are a muffin lover, we got you! So versatile, we know it’s hard to resist muffins this time of year as they seem to pop up on every dessert table, office break room and even at breakfast buffets. By using whole grains, healthy fats and (most importantly) portion control, there are ways to satisfy your cravings for a warm muffin in a healthier way. And whether baking classic blueberry muffins or a creative twist like these jumbo muffins with avocado, we can’t forget the most important ingredient: blueberries.
