Camposol Cares from Farm to Family

Caring for Wildlife

Posted On: October 7, 2019

As a socially responsible company, it’s our objective to protect and conserve local wildlife. In order to maintain the flora and fauna that surrounds our fields—many of which are beneficial to our crops—we include sustainable agricultural practices in our day to day and conduct an annual wildlife census.

The wildlife census is conducted on our fields in Viru (just outside of Trujillo) as well as those in Piura. By mapping out all the species of flora and fauna on the Camposol grounds we are able to see not only what species have appeared or survived but also how many there are and where they are located. These results allow us to continuously update our Conservation Plan.

Today we have introduced some 27 species of flora to the area surrounding our fields, and registered nine species of reptiles, one amphibien (the toad), one mammal (the fox), and 46 bird species. Not to mention the some 1,500 bees that belong to our apiary.

It’s an amazing feat considering that this land was once barren desert.

Each fundo has its own map to demonstrate the protected areas, the characteristics of the present flora and fauna, if the local environment is sensitive, and what activities are prohibited. Employees can look at the maps and understand how to respect and take care of this specific area.

Throughout Camposol there are various points of conservation marked with a sign. We offer training to everyone that works at Camposol – from field workers to managers – and they know when they come across one of these signs that they need to take more care in this area.
